About Free HD Wallpapers

What we publish

The library is organised into fifteen collections, each one built around a clear visual idea rather than a keyword. A collection page lists every image with its resolution, aspect ratio, file type, dominant colours, author and licence, so you can decide before you download anything.

Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and from public domain archives. Every single one keeps its original attribution and licence, and the page links back to the source file. Original artwork — the illustrated scenes, the quote cards and the abstract backgrounds — is produced in-house by Free HD Wallpapers and published under the Free HD Wallpapers Licence.

How the library is built

The catalogue is generated programmatically: every image is described with structured data, and the page around it — title, description, usage notes, styling tips, FAQ and structured data for search engines — is assembled from that data in English and Spanish.

The automation handles the repetitive work so that a human can do the part that matters. Images are reviewed for resolution, framing and compression before publication, and no picture is published with a resolution claim the original file cannot support.

Why it is free

Free HD Wallpapers is funded by the advertising shown on the site. That is the whole business model: no premium tier, no watermark, no download credits. It also means the layout is designed to be fast and unobtrusive, because an image library that is slow to load is not doing its job.
